Jay Labarre has a well-established and lengthy history with the Livingston Parish library board. The design and construction of four new parish libraries came to fruition following a decade-long collaborative effort with the board. The library design was a joint venture with Cockfield-Jackson Architects. The four new libraries are: Denham Springs-Walker, Albany-Springfield, Watson, and South Branch in Livingston and range in size from 9,580 to 18,960 square feet. All four were newly designed and constructed to incorporate a similar architectural style. Four separate contractors provided the construction.
Livingston's library design is a traditional southern-style building with modern finishes and technologies, including state-of-the-art security and computer systems. Included are many custom finishes, such as granite counters for the circulation area and millwork accents. Reader-friendly architectural design allows different functions for different reading areas such as Young Adults, Adults, and the Reference Area. In addition, the design includes leisure reading areas and display areas where works of local artists are displayed in each library.
